The Magnificent Scuffler

EXT. ROUTE 66 - DAY
Hiram and his best friend Monroe walk the empty road.

                      HIRAM
Truth be told, I’d grapple for free.
No lie. It might sound silly, but when
      I’m a'going at it against a fellah, a
calm comes over me. It feels peaceful.

                      MONROE
Maybe your spirit has found its purpose.

                      HIRAM
Is that some Indian way of thinking?

                      MONROE
...I guess.  I am an Indian.

                      HIRAM
“My spirit has found its purpose.”
That's good. Hey, how come you always
       sound so smart, Monroe?

                      MONROE
                 (a beat; then)
I guess I think about what I say before
       I say it.

                      HIRAM
       That’s it?

                      MONROE
                (another long beat)
       That’s it.

Hiram stares at Monroe for an even longer beat, then:

                      HIRAM
Thought I’d try it, but couldn’t come
       up with nothing.

Almost...

My Uncle Hardell likes to say all politicians are nincompoops.    He points out that no one really liked, trusted or hung out with the dorks who ran for office back in high school and college -- and those are the same dimwits smiling on your T.V. today.
